According to “Riyadh Airports” statistical report, King Khalid International Airport has exceeded 2 million passengers (arrivals and departures) during Hajj and back to school season for the year 1440H\2019, with a daily average of 81 thousand passengers, an increase of 2.8% compared to last year, and the total number of flights reached 15,101, an increase of 2.3% over last year’s daily average of 559 flights and handling 1,828,198 pieces of luggage in less than a month.
The statistics further indicated that on the 8th of August 2019 (7th Dhu'l-Hijjah) is the most active day according to the number of passengers (arrivals and departures) with 101,510 passengers which is the highest since the opening of King Khalid International Airport in 1983. Jeddah topped the most domestic destinations from King Khalid International Airport in terms of the number of departures and arrivals, where Dubai has recorded the highest number of international flights departing and arriving at King Khalid International Airport.
In response to the expected growth in the numbers of passengers, flights and baggage, “Riyadh Airports” has recently introduced a new baggage transit mechanism between international and domestic flights at King Khalid International Airport, which aims to facilitate baggage procedures to arrive directly at the final destination of the passengers, ultimately saving time and effort which improves their experience by assisting their travel between flights contributing to the increase of passenger traffic.
