King Khalid International Airport—managed and operated by Riyadh Airports Company—is preparing to launch a major strategic transformation plan, the first of its kind since the airport opened more than 40 years ago, aligned with the ongoing development of the capital, Riyadh. The plan is set to begin implementation duringfirst quarter of 2026.

This plan stands as one of the most prominent development initiatives aimed at achieving the strategic vision for Saudi airports, given its comprehensive operational and regulatory dimensions that directly support Riyadh Airports.

The plan includes a major operational relocation among the existingtransition, whose initial designs have been refreshed to reflect their identity since the airport’s inauguration. Under the new arrangement, Terminal 5 will be dedicated to international flights operated by foreign airlines, while Terminals 3 and 4 will serve domestic flights. Meanwhile, Terminals 1 and 2 will continue to accommodate international flights operated by national carriers.

This major transitionis expected to increase the terminals’ capacity, enhance ease of movement between them, and reduce connection and waiting times, ultimately improving the passenger experience and elevating service quality. The actual relocation date will be announced once the readiness of all airport sectors and all operating airlines is fully confirmed.

Riyadh Airports, in coordination with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Matarat Holding, affirmed that this step is part of an ambitious strategy to elevate the travel experience at the capital’s airport. It includes a comprehensive package of development initiatives aimed at boosting operational efficiency and enhancing the level of services provided to passengers.

It is worth noting that the major transformation plan for King Khalid International Airport seeks to meet national ambitions and strategic targets for the Saudi aviation sector and elevate its regional and international standing—fully aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to advance the air transport sector and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub connecting the three continents through world-class infrastructure and a superior travel experience.
